Robotics Contest

2011 ROBOTICS COMPETITION

The AESS Association (Students of the Telecommunications Engineering Superior School) of Barcelona from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia is organizing the legendary national contest of robotics, known as AESSbot.

With more than 50 participants in its last edition, this competition brings together the most talented young people of our country in the filed of robotics and electronic developers.

Modalities of competition:

-Humanoids: the objective of the contest is to show the skills that each humanoid robot posses by developing several tests that will be carried out separately (sumo, stairs, obstacles...).

-Sumo Wrestlers: the rules of the contest are an adaptation of the official rules of Japan. Two robots are placed in a black circle delimited by a white line with the goal of trying to expel the opponent outside of the combat area.

-Mini sumo Wrestlers: reduced version of the sumo (both in measurements and weight of the robot and the combat area) in which contestants are limited to only 500 gr. weight .

- Sprinters: to win in this category the robot has to complete a circuit consisting of a white runway on a black background. The score will be determinated depending on  its speed and accuracy.

-Trackers: this competition is the one which requires more knowledge of artificial intelligence. The robots are trying to simulate the behavior of a vacuum machine  collecting grains of rice (dirt) on a black area with various obstacles (furniture). The winner will be the one that more rice pick up at the stipulated time.

 - Freestyle: for the people who bring various robots that have developed. It will assess the robots more useful, unique, or organic, more innovative or those using the latest technology.
